EdgeStar Full Size Dual Tap Kegerator & Draft Beer Dispenser Review

The EdgeStar Dual Tap Kegerator – Black Version is an excellent double tap appliance that ticks most boxes when looking for a 2 tap kegerator. It’s a perfect addition to any bar, restaurant, living room, kitchen or man cave. The KC2000TWIN is all you need as your first dual tap kegerator, it’s also very cost effective, which is nice. It also comes in stainless steel, KC2000SSTWIN, with a slightly higher cost, although the look is classier.

The black Edgestar Two Tap Faucet Kegerator in black is basically the KC2000 but with dual taps.

It’s all black with a metal wire (chrome) safety railing surrounding the 3 sides at the top of the kegerator, this helps to secure any glasses and prevents them from falling and being broken. There are rolling coasters which allow for mobility, so moving it around from room to room is very easy.

A stainless steel dual faucet is fitted on top of the kegerator and has a drip tray below to catch any dripping draft beer. Finally the CO2 tank can be attached and mounted either internally or externally, depending on your space requirements.

The EdgeStar full size dual tap kegerator is of excellent value, combining a designed-to-fit refrigerator with commercial-grade, National Sanitation Foundation approved beer and air lines.

Low Temperature Thermostat

The built-in thermostat enables the kegerator to maintain ultra-low temperatures, easily reaching into the low 30C’s (86F). A great plus for quickly cooling and keeping your beer ice cold.

Slim Width

The width is 4 inches less than a standard full size kegerator but still large enough to hold a full size keg. This is great for fitting it into those tighter areas or gaps within a kitchen or man cave.

Caster Included

The rolling casters make it easy to move from room to room, as and when needed. This can be extremely beneficial and convenient when entertaining.

External CO2 Tank Mount

There is more internal space because the gas tank is externally mounted at the back of the unit. It has an easy to read gauge attached, this enables one to keep track of the tank pressure.

Assembly generally takes an average of between 30 minutes to 1.5 hour. The time taken to perform this task depends how comfortable or handy you are when faced with such a task. Fortunately not many tools are needed, only a screwdriver and wrench would be required to complete your mission successfully. An important element to always remember is that all connections must be securely fastened to prevent any leaks.

PS. The manual and video are for the single Edgstar KC2000 kegerator. Basically the same installation only with a double tap faucet.

For better clarity on the assembly, I recommend you watch the videos below, this will take you through all the steps.

Something to be aware of is that CO2 tank comes empty due to HAZMAT shipping restrictions and will need to be filled at a local air/gas or welding supplier.
One last important point to always remember is that when you are assembling the beer coupler to the airline, never discard the clear check valve inside the coupler. This prevents air leaks and liquid from flowing back up into the regulator.

Keg Sizes and Capacity

Acceptable Configurations:

• (1) Full Size Keg, 1/2 Barrel (124 pints)
• (1) Pony Keg, 1/4 Barrel (62 pints)
• (1) Slim-Pony Keg, 1/4 Barrel (62 pints)
• Up to (2) Sixth Barrel kegs, (42 pints each)
• Up to (2) Cornelius Homebrew kegs, (40 pints each)

The capacity of the Edgestar Dual Tap can sometimes be a slight concern because of its compact size. It stores and holds most full size kegs but does not support the oversized rubber and bevelled wall ¼ barrel kegs, any oversized kegs like Miller or Coors will definitely not fit. An over-sized keg is considered anything over 16 1/8 inches.

External Dimensions (w/ draft tower) 48 1/2″ H x 20 1/10″ W x 24 13/16″ D

Edgstar provides a 90 day warranty on labor from the date of original purchase. All labor should be performed free of charge at any authorized EdgeStar repair facility. One drawback here is having to carry the appliance to your local repair facility.
Parts are also covered for a 1 year period from the date of purchase. As part of this cover Edgestar agrees to supply new, rebuilt, or refurbished parts free of charge.

In my opinion, this warranty is not the best and not as good as other products within this category but because this kegerator is basically just a converted mini-fridge, the short warranty hopefully shouldn’t come into play.

The company provides customer service and product expert teams from 8am to 5pm CST, Monday through to Friday. They also make a promise that if they’re not available, you have the option to leave a message or send an email. Someone will call you back within 1 business day.

The Edgestar Dual Tap kegerator (KC2000TWIN ) generally has good reviews from all sellers and suppliers.

There is a lot to like about this model. Even some of the “cons” of foaming and noise were not enough to dissuade customers from submitting favorable reviews for this Edgestar model.
On Amazon it has a 4.3 out of 5 star rating with over 95 customer reviews, at the time of writing.

We recommend the EdgeStar Full Size Dual Tap Kegerator from Amazon

In conclusion, the KC2000TWIN is an excellent simplified entry level dual tap kegerator for the first time buyer. It’s been considered the most affordable kegerator within its class. I would recommend it to those looking for the more affordable option. The warranty may not be the best but this shouldn’t be an issue for most users of this product. It’s also one of the smaller sized kegerators, with wheels that make it quite mobile and easy to move from room to room. Saying that, one drawback may be that it should only be used indoors. Overall most first buyers will be very satisfied with this purchase.

Where to buy and price?

The EdgeStar Dual Tap Kegerator & Draft Beer Dispenser has a wide range of pricing, obviously depending on where you buy the product. It’s generally very affordable. This excellent low price is one of its biggest selling points. Shipping is also included for free, who can argue with that?

Some Q&A

Question: Can I have two different flavor kegs and have each valve give me a different flavor beer? Also can I change the tap handles?

Answer: Yes, and yes!

Question: Just bought the stainless version of this kegerator – what is the loose metal plate that came with it inside?

Answer: It goes on the bottom for the kegs to sit on. I recommend watching Edgestar’s youtube videos about setup and maintenance. Very helpful–just search for edgestar kegerator.

Question: Can I detach the tower, cut a hole in my countertop and run the tape from my countertop? My question is there a way to plug the top of the fridge?

Answer: You could do that. The tower is screwed on to the top of the fridge. To seal the hole I would use spray foam

Question: Can I detach the tower, cut a hole in my countertop

Answer: The tower comes detached. I’m sure it’s possible. You’ll likely have to come up with an Insulated sleeves of bridge the gap as well

Question: What ampage does this unit draw?

Answer: Not sure but I have it on a 15amp circuit. When the compressor kicks on my lights on the same circuit initially flicker. When the electric fire place kicks on with the kegerators compressor, the breaker is tripped. I ended up moving my kegerator to a different room which is on another 15amp circuit.
